Mission
The Friends of the Guilford County Open Space Program is a grassroots network of citizens dedicated to helping protect and preserve the natural environment of Guilford County, North Carolina. The group's primary function is to support the work of the Guilford County Open Space Committee, as they seek to purchase undeveloped land in the county and provide the public with conservation education.
Volunteer
As a Friend of the open space program, you will have the opportunity to get involved in a number of ways. From writing letters to the newspaper and to the county commissioners to helping clean up and care for newly acquired property, we are always looking for supportive citizens willing to contribute in whatever capacity they feel most comfortable.
Funding
In 2004, the citizens of Guilford County voted to approve $10 million in bond funds to preserve open space. Thus far, with the help of the good work of the Open Space Committee, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners has approved the purchase of more than 700 acres of undeveloped land. With the remaining funds, the committee plans to strategically locate and purchase another 1,000 - 2,000 acres.
Soon, it will be time to begin seeking additional funding for open space acquisition. This is why we need your support.
Although the group is not recognized by the IRS as a non-profit organization at this time, the committee does accept donations. For more information, contact Brian Crean at: brian@stillbook.org.
